Cornerstone Montessori School was founded in March of 1983, with the goal of providing children with the most nurturing Montessori education available. It is a non-sectarian, non-discriminatory, private school located in Golden, Colorado.
The school sits on a one-acre campus with three log buildings surrounded by private property, much of it a wetland preserve. There is an Open Space trail running along the south edge of the campus that is maintained by the Prospect Parks & Recreation District. It’s common to see hikers and horseback riders on the trail.
Between the buildings are a tree-shaded courtyard and an outdoor gardening area (greenhouse coming in the fall of 2019). The main building has a large wrap-around deck with tables and benches. The playground includes a swing set, play structure, and several age-appropriate toys. Our children enjoy very natural surroundings with abundant opportunities for outdoor experiences.
Cornerstone Montessori School’s purpose is to provide quality Early Childhood Education (ECE) utilizing the Montessori method. Children in a Montessori environment learn through active discovery rather than through passive reception. All of our teachers have received specialized training in the Montessori method, which includes teachings, observations, and materials developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, as well as training in ECE. Our staff commits to each family enrolled in the school to support the discovery and development of the greatest potential within each child.
To create an environment, that cares for and educates young children, by nurturing the independence of self through respect, peace, and the teachings of Maria Montessori.
We, the staff of Cornerstone Montessori School, follow the teachings of Maria Montessori by embracing the uniqueness and potential of each child and member of our community. We promise
- To foster compassion, imagination, respect, trust, honesty, kindness, and independence in every child.
- To support the development of children in a loving, joyful, and safe environment.
- To be prepared, present, whole and accountable.
